Inability to conceive, also called as infertility, leads to severe frustration, stress and depression. As high as 10-15% of all couples will seek help for infertility. Unfortunately, the problem is increasing rapidly due to modern lifestyle. First IVF baby, Louise Brown was born in Oldham, England in July 1978. In December 1981 America’s first IVF baby Elizabeth Carr was born in Norfolk, Virginia.

What is infertility ?

Inability to conceive after regular relations over a period of one year is defined as infertility.

    What is required to become pregnant ?

To achieve pregnancy, the couple needs to have the following factors favorable :

  • A normal sperm from the male
  • A normal egg from the female
  • A normal female genital tract so that the sperm can meet the egg in the tube to form the pregnancy

    Are all treatments for infertility available at “The Origin”?

    What are the tests required to detect the cause of infertility before starting treatment?

The couples history and examination provides valuable information.
Initial investigations include:
Husband seminal fluid analysis
Blood tests in the female partner to check ovarian function
Special ultrasound to check the uterine cavity, tubes and ovaries

    What are the fertility treatment options available?

Treatment of infertility depends on the cause.
Ovulation Induction – The ovaries are stimulated to produce eggs using tablets or injections
IUI – Sperms are deposited inside the uterus at the time of ovulation to increase the chances of fertilisation
IVF -Eggs are collected from the lady and mixed with the sperms taken from the husband. Fertilisation happens outside the body to form embryos. Good embryos are transferred into the uterus.
ICSI – One sperm is injected into each egg to form embryos. Embryos are then transferred into the uterus.

    Is it necessary for a patient to be admitted to the hospital for fertility treatment?

Most patients go home within 4 to 6 hours. Admission is rarely required.

    What is the success rate of this treatment?

The success of fertility treatment depends upon the underlying cause. Simple measures such as IUI are successful in 15 to 20% and IVF/ICSI in 50 to 60%.

    Does The Origin centre have a sperm bank?

Yes, the centre has all banking and storage facilities. Special liquid nitrogen tanks help in freezing sperms and embryos.

    Is there a chance of the baby having any defects that may show up in later life?

Evidence so far suggests that birth defects are nor significantly higher due to assisted reproductive techniques.

    We stay far from The Origin centre. How can we take treatment from you?

Yes, you will need to visit us in a planned fashion. Advance planning is possible. Many such couples have already undergone treatment successfully. Couples travel from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, all over Maharashtra and other states of India. Many couples have come for treatment from UK, USA, Bahrain and other Gulf countries, Hongkong, Korea and so on

    Is it possible to take treatment from The Origin if we live in another city or country?

Yes, you will need to visit us in a planned fashion. Advance planning is possible. Many such couples have already undergone treatment successfully. Couples travel from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, all over Maharashtra and other states of India. Many couples have come for treatment from UK, USA, Bahrain and other Gulf countries, Hongkong, Korea and so on

    If we need to stay for long period for our treatment, can accommodation be arranged?

The Origin centre has guest rooms. If these are full, nearby accommodation details can be provided. Fortunately, staying in Thane is not as costly as in Mumbai.

    I am an international patient. I wanted to take fertility treatment in an advanced centre?

Infertility can be treated in most cases, but it is important to seek the correct and timely advice from specialists in this field
